How To Identify YOUR Biggest Time Wasters

This post is the first in a series on developing better time management skills.  If you are like most people, you probably waste time on various tasks and for various reasons.  Determining what you waste time on and why you are wasting time will give you a starting point for developing better time management skills.

What Do You Waste Time On?

Here are a few questions you can ask yourself to help you get a clearer picture of your current time wasting activities & what you can do about them:

  • What activities do you already know of that you waste time on?
  • Are there related activities that are also time wasters for you?
  • Dwelling on the past or future can be a huge time waster and drain your energy.  How much time do you spend living in the past or future?

Do You Give Away Your Time?

  • Do you ever feel frustrated because you’ve “given away” your time?
  • In what situations does this happen?
  • Can you eliminate or reduce these types of situations?

Once you’ve identified your specific time wasters you can begin to address “why” you waste time and ways to eliminate, delegate and rearrange necessary activities so you can manage your time more effectively.

Stay tuned for my next blog post in this series on Developing Better Time Management Skills.

Cheers!
